Former First Lady Laura Bush and Italian Ambassador Giulio Terzi At Opening Reception for Palladio Exhibit Former First Lady Laura Bush and her former Chief of Staff, Anita McBride, joined Italian Ambassador Giulio Terzi and Ms. Antonella Cinque at a reception at the National Building Museum to celebrate the opening of the Andrea Palladio exhibition on Palladio and His Legacy: A Transatlantic Journey. The exhibition will be on display at the National Building Museum until January 9, 2011. The exhibition, organized by the Embassy of Italy, the Centro Internazionale di Studi Palladiani of Vicenza and the Royal Institute of British Architects Trust of London, emphasizes the reinterpretation of the ancient Roman forms and Palladio’s strong influence in Thomas Jefferson’s designs and in Washington’s major institutional edifices. “This exhibition pays homage to the works of an individual that fully captured the roots of Italian cultural identity from Ancient Rome to the Renaissance – stated Giulio Terzi, Ambassador of Italy – and, at the same time, went beyond national borders, across the ocean and left an important mark on the architecture of a rising American nation which continues today to speak of American Palladianism.” Links: Remarks by Amb.
