Stefania Prestigiacomo, Italy's Minister of Environment Participates in
"Major Economies Forum" in Washington
Fresh from a three-day G-8 summit in her hometown in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy's Environment Minister Stefania Prestigiacomo is in Washington to participate in the "Major Economies Forum" (MEF). The G-8 meeting in Siracusa focused on climate change and biodiversity. The Major Economies Forum (MEF) on Energy and Climate meets in Washington, DC at the Department of State, on April 27-28 to work on creating a new international agreement to curb greenhouse gases which will replace the Kyoto Protocol when it expires in 2012. The meeting will be followed by a G8 summit in Italy in July. Minister Prestigiacomo gave a press conference at the Italian embassy on April 27, where she outlined Italy's position at the MEF meeting.
