49th Annual Ceremony Commemorating Charles J. Bonaparte 46th Attorney General & Founder of the FBI On June 11, 2009, at the United States Department of Justice the Italian American community honored Charles Joseph Bonaparte, the 46th Attorney General of the United States and the Founder of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This Annual Ceremony, now in its 49th year, was instituted by John LaCorte, Sr., founder of the Italian Historical Society of America, in 1961, with the collaboration of local Italian American organizations in the Washington area, including the Lido Civic Club. Since then, Charles Bonaparte has been commemorated at the Department of Justice in the month of June, the month of his birth. This year's speakers included John Di Cicco, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, Hon. John Facciola, Magistrate Judge in Washington, D.C., Dr. Giannicola Sinisi, Justice Attache' at the Embassy of Italy. Welcoming remarks were extended by John LaCorte, Jr., the President of the Italian Historical Society, and Francesco Isgro, Acting Director of Training for the Civil Division and Senior Litigation Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice. Among the special guests attending the ceremony were Arthur Gajarsa, Federal Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and Ron Cimino, Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division, U.S. Department of Justice.
