Italian American Olympic Star Alicia Sacramone

Alicia Sacramone was a member of the Silver Medal winning US Olympic team in 2008 and has won nine career World Championships medals, including three Golds, four Silvers and two Bronzes, the highest career tally in US history.

She was named USA Gymnastics' Sportswoman of the Year in four different years (‘05, ’06, ’07, ‘10). At the 2007 World Championships, she helped the US women win just their second world team title in history. Sacramone and her World Championships teammates were named the US Olympic Committee's Team of the Year for 2007. Sacramone had won five US vault titles (‘05,’06,’07, ‘08, ‘10) as well as two US National floor exercise crowns in 2005-06.

Alicia SacramoneFollowing the 2008 Olympics, Alicia retired from elite competition.

On August 6, 2009, she announced her return to training. In July 2010, Alicia competed in the Cover Girl Classic placing first in both beam and vault. Her return to competitive form was judged dramatically successful by meet commentators and she was named USA Today's "Athlete of the Week". Sacramone competed in the U.S. National Championships in August, performing in vault and balance beam. She placed first on vault (her fifth National vault title) and second on balance beam. She was also named Sportsperson of the Year.

In October, 2010 Alicia was chosen to be a member of the USA World Championship Team. Alicia lead the US team overseas to compete against the best in the world. She came home not only with the Silver medal in the team competition around her neck, but also with the World Championship Gold medal in vault. This further solidified Alicia comeback and dominance in the sport.

Sacramone attended Brown University for two years and was an assistant volunteer coach on the Bears’ women’s gymnastics team in 2008.
