11|04|25 ~ Today, April 25, is La Festa della Liberazione or Italy's Liberation Day, marking the liberation of Italy by the Allied Troops in 1945. It is also a day to remember the "partigiani" those Italians who went underground in Northern Italy and fought with the Allied troops against the German troops. My father was one of them. Although he rarely spoke about his time in Northern Italy, he reminded me from time to time that an Italian family in the city of Cuneo saved his life. Thank you to all the partigiani and the Americans who liberated Italy! The folk song "Bella Ciao" played inthe video below tells the tale of a partisan who died for freedom, asking only to buried in the mountains under the shadow of a beautiful flower. (FI)
