Italian Tenor Salvatore Licitra in "Grave" But Stable Conditions Following Scooter Accident August 31, 2011 - Italian tenor Salvatore LIcitra, who gained notoriety after subbing for Luciano Pavarotti at New York's Metropolitan Opera in 2002, is reportedly in critical conditions at Catania's Garibaldi hospital. Licitra, who is 43-years old, suffered severe head and chest injuries when the scooter he was driving crashed into a wall in southeastern Sicily last Saturday night. In addition to his acclaimed performances in New York, Licitra has also performed at the Washington National Opera in Washington, DC and Milan's La Scala among other opera houses.
