In London, the First Lady will participate in events for the Let Girls Learn initiative; in Milan, she will lead the Presidential Delegation to the World’s Fair; in Vicenza, she will visit US military service members and their families at US Army Garrison Vicenza

First Lady Michelle Obama will travel to the United Kingdom and Italy from June 15-21, 2015. Accompanying Mrs. Obama on this trip will be her mother, Mrs. Marian Robinson, and daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama.

As part of the Let Girls Learn initiative, and following her recent visits to Japan and Cambodia, the First Lady will visit London. In London, the First Lady will visit the Mulberry School for Girls and host a roundtable with the Director of Research for Equitable Access and Learning Centre at Cambridge University, the Co-Founder of Camfed’s Alumnae Association, and a returned Peace Corps volunteer. Following the roundtable, Mrs. Obama will take questions from students alongside Julia Gillard, the former Prime Minister of Australia, the current Board Chair for the Global Partnership for Education, and a strong advocate on international adolescent girls education.

In addition to her roundtable discussion and Q&A with students and Mrs. Gillard, the First Lady will also meet with Prime Minister Cameron and Mrs. Cameron, and Prince Harry.

From London, the First Lady will travel to Milan. As part of her Let’s Move! initiative, the First Lady will lead a Presidential Delegation to the Milan Expo 2015, representing our steadfast commitment to a healthier nation. The Presidential Delegation will tour the USA Pavilion, “American Food 2.0: United to Feed the Planet.” Mrs. Obama and the Delegation will also participate in a cooking activity with children. In addition to visiting the U.S. Pavilion, the First Lady will meet with Prime Minister Renzi, and tour the Italian Pavilion with Ms. Landini, the Prime Minister’s wife.

From there, the First Lady will travel to Vicenza, Italy. As part of the Joining Forces initiative, Mrs. Obama will visit members of the military and their families stationed at U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza. Knowing that children of military families face unique challenges when their parents are deployed, the First Lady will begin her visit by meeting with the children of service members. Next, the First Lady will deliver remarks to Vicenza’s soldiers and their families. The First Lady looks forward to personally thanking the service members and their families and reminding them that their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed by the American people. Finally, the First Lady will join nearly 30 soon-to-be, and new moms on base, in a roundtable discussion to hear about the opportunities and challenges of raising military families while stationed overseas.

The First Lady will also visit cultural sites in Venice before returning to Washington, DC.
